Emblematic of supremacy in the 'C' Divisions of U11 (Atom), U13 (Peewee), U15 (Bantam) and U18 (Midget), Hockey Day in Chilliwack is the culmination of a season long round robin tournament played among the Chilliwack Minor Hockey teams in those four Divisions. This day is the envy of other Associations as this is unique to ours, and crowns a Champion in those 'C' Divisions that will provide lasting memories to everyone involved for years to come.
In 1990, the Coordinator of the Atom Division, Chris Gadsen, proposed the idea to end the season with an intra-association 'C' Division round robin playoff with the top 2 teams competing in a single Championship playoff game. Thus began the Cannor Cup, which dates back to 1973 and had otherwise sat dormant for years, but returned to crown the U11 (Atom) Division Champions.
In 1992, the addition of the U13 (Peewee) Division and the Roy Morrow Memorial Trophy was introduced, and the winners of that became known as Morrow Cup Champions.
U15 (Bantam) soon followed and in 1994 the Jim Donaldson Cup was first awarded, and finally in 1999 the U18 (Midget) Division completed the Championship Series for Chilliwack Minor Hockey and the Sapphire Cup rounded out the quadfecta.
Hockey Day in Chilliwack provides an opportunity for well over 100 players to exhibit skills and sportsmanship while being cheered on by their friends and family as they play for pride and the love of the game of hockey.
This day is meant not only for these four Divisions, but also for every member of Chilliwack Minor Hockey. Recognition for each team's Most Valuable, Most Sportsmanlike and the player exhibiting Heart and Hustle are announced and medals presented, and special recognition to all of our 3rd year U18 players is also part of the day. A draw for Free Registration is conducted for each Division at the conclusion of the applicable Cup game, and members only have to be in attendance to claim this prize.
Much planning goes in to this day, and the efforts of the Executive, your Coordinators especially, as well as all the coaches, managers, safety people and past members enable the continuation of this exceptional event.
