Information from your CMHA Executive

Apr. 04, 2020

Hello to all members of Chilliwack Minor Hockey,

Thank you for being patient as your CMHA Executive continues to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 crisis that is impacting all of our lives in dramatic ways. We have met recently via video conferencing and will be meeting again later this month, and we intend to meet every 2 weeks for the foreseeable future as things are changing daily.

For the short term, please note the following details in regards to the closing of the 2019-20 season, as well as the planning for the 2020-21 season.

Registration will be as per usual, and will open for returning players on May 1st. More details will be sent in regards to any additional information we may need to send to you, as we are well aware that this pandemic is impacting many of us in our financial ability to pay for things like hockey registration, and there will be multiple options that will be provided for each member and their own situation. That information will come to you after we meet again on April 14th.

We ask that each member hang on to their jerseys for the time being, if you are to return them then please ensure all letters are removed and the jerseys are washed and placed on hangers. Please take care of the jerseys and please be ready to hand them in with short notice as our window to do this may be very tight when that day does come. Keep in mind that any jerseys we have to replace due to damage or non-return does get covered by the deposit cheque you all submitted, but that is something none of us want to do at this time so please do this one small task for us and be respectful of those jerseys. We thank you for that!

Puck bags, first aid kits and any other equipment that needs to be returned should be held for the time being by whoever on the team might have those items. We will have more information for you after the 14th and once again, the time and place to return those might be sent to you with minimal notice so please have these ready for return.

Team financial information will be sent in a separate message to each team manager.

Our AGM has been postponed until at least June 30th and the nomination procedure will not change, however, this is a fluid situation and may change at any time. More information on both of those items will be sent to you later this month.

Finally, to wrap up the 2019-20 season, your board discussed how to handle the missing Hockey Day in Chilliwack. There is no right way to do this and not everyone will agree with what has been decided, but we did our best to make it as fair as possible for everyone.

Medals and certificates will be held for the time being until things calm down a bit in the world, but at some point you will all get what was to be presented to you. Unfortunately this will not be a formal ceremony, that of course is not possible, but everything will be sent out in some way at some point.

How to handle the final games in each division was discussed and while things rarely get cancelled in hockey, in many other sports a rain out or other weather related events often cut short the end of a tournament. Keeping in mind that each Division's Cup games were a round robin tournament followed by a final game, the games were over 90% completed, and so in the end the team that finished in first place will be named as the Cup champion for the 2019-20 season. We also looked at the fact that each first place team did win the round robin game they played against the 2nd place team, and this made that decision a bit easier. Trophies will be handed out to each 1st place and 2nd place team at the appropriate time.

Once again, we thank you all for your patience, all of us have much more important things to be dealing with right now but we will play hockey again, very soon, and things will return to normal. For now this is dramatically unsettling for us all and we are doing our best to keep you informed as well as make the best decisions we think can be made due to the circumstances.

Please reach out to your Divisional Director if you have any further questions. Thank you, and more information will be sent out after April 14th.

Stay safe everybody! See you in the rink, soon!
